Throughout my career in consumer packaged goods, I’ve worked across a variety of categories and cost is always a top consideration for shoppers when making purchase decisions. Brands that deliver great value – the right consumer equation for quality and cost – and a differentiated product are the ones that succeed.
I came to Soli Organic because I’m passionate about democratizing organic food and making healthy eating accessible to everyone. As Chief Product Officer at Soli Organic, I love partnering with our R&D, Operations and Sales teams to bring to market a wide range of fresh herbs and our new salads portfolio. I’m excited by Soli Organic’s drive to challenge what’s possible. We want to show the world that organic produce doesn’t have to be expensive to taste great.
However, with the increased pressures of inflation, shoppers feel the squeeze on their wallets and value is more top of mind. This makes Soli Organic’s brand promise of affordable organic even more relevant so consumers don’t have to sacrifice quality for price.
Soli Organic has been growing and selling produce for more than 30 years. Over the course of our history and transition from outdoor growing to indoor vertical farming, we believe we’ve cracked the code to consistently deliver high-quality products at the prices consumers want.
Consumers prefer organic produce, but price continues to be the top barrier for shoppers. According to organic performance
data analyzed in July 2023, the average price gap between organic and conventional is the largest it has been in four years. This trend forces many shoppers to be more selective in their grocery choices.
Soli Organic is bucking this trend through superior unit economics. We have achieved lower production costs while delivering high quality, organic and other premium attributes. These are cost savings we pass along to the consumer.
For example, Soli Organic’s current suggested price for organic indoor-grown spinach is lower than the industry average for branded organic spinach. When it comes to herbs, we’re leading the pack too. Our 2 oz basil has a lower average price per ounce than other controlled environment products, which also typically lack organic certification. Our current cost of growing herbs indoors is 30 percent less than traditional field growing, on average, while our newest indoor facilities are projected to achieve growing costs of 50 percent less.
We’ve proved quality and organic don’t actually need to cost more. And unlike traditional field-grown agriculture that can face challenges with climate unpredictability or variable product yields, by growing indoors, Soli Organic is able to provide consistent, high-quality products 365 days a year using proprietary growing techniques and state-of-the-art indoor facilities.
Our ability to provide fresh, flavorful, organic options year-round is something we know our customers and consumers value. That’s why, as the nation’s leading grower of fresh culinary herbs, we provide products to over 20,000 retailers nationwide.
